In the summer of 1988 I wrote the poem, ‘The Bands of Years’, right out. I have written only two other poems right out. I didn’t understand what I had written.

Sixteen years later, I had come to believe that Jesus is Lord, that he had died on the cross to save me from my sins, and I had confessed these truths in faith and had been saved, or born-again.

I asked Jesus to explain the poem to me. He said that he was the one who was “splendorous with the coming of the sun”, who had “alighted within the Court and set the leaves of countless summers past astir”.

Sixteen years before I was saved, Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, inspired me to write a poem the first three stanzas were about him!

‘The Bands of Years’ was my first Christian poem. I have written more than twenty others since then.

I am preparing a manuscript, ‘The Bands of Years’, for possible publication.
